More Bla Bla on "anna+wintour"

The war of the fashion glossies is on. And although Anna Wintour is sure to act like it is business as usual, I am sure the back room arm twisting for advertisers and editorial is about to get really sick. Poor… Read More »

Hedi Slimane vs. Cathy Horyn “Let’s get ready to rumble!” Yikes, talk about “In this Corner”. That silly Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey dust up comes off like two kittens playing compared to the battle royale between Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent Paris versus Cathy Horyn, The New York Times fashion critic. I mean… brew-haha, only no one is laughing. What has bubbled up to a fever pitch between the fashion designer and the critic is beyond beyond. Let me preface this with, I am a huge Cathy Horyn fan and though she might be getting bad press these days… Read More »

Who is more stunning than Kate Moss? Vogue will hit their September issue out of the park with the cover to end all covers shot by Mario Testino. Do you remember in the documentary, The September Issue, with all the fuss about Sienna Miller being featured on the cover? What was that? He hair was styled like a tomato. And what has she done since then? There is no comparison to when a fashion magazine cover features a supermodel rather than an actress-ish. Excuse me, I saw The Help and Emma Stone is cute, but you can all relax. There’s… Read More »

Will you become a Valli Girl?

Let me be the first, well, perhaps the second person to congratulate Macy’s for doing a fashion-focused series of collaborations to generate heat and foot traffic. The newest collab is with Giambattista Valli for Impulse. All I can say is that creating fashion designer collaborations sure beats the celebrity-turned-designer nonsense from seasons past. Sure, Jessica Simpson is a billion dollar brand, but there will always be exceptions to every rule. With the demise of the Sarah Jessica Parker for Halston hullabaloo, maybe the fashion industry can rejoice and enjoy fashion designers again. And while I am at it, perhaps with… Read More »

Ever since Anna Wintour had the good sense to separate her Vogue brand from style.com, which used-to-be the leading fashion blog, it has since suffered the slippery slope currently affecting many fashion blogs as of late. Is it me or does it seem that so many fashion blogs have become regurgitated, un-opinionated non-news? As we wind down 2010, style.com felt compelled to do a piece on The Year In Love, all about Courtney Love–known whackadoo. But not only is Courtney–who yes, has cool moments–a total loon, but in the bigger picture, she is so friggen crazy, that even her own… Read More »

Billy Reid. (Silence) Billy Reid. (Thump, he fainted and fell to the floor) Billy Reid. Well, maybe he didn’t faint, but the immediate surprise in the room was surely palpable. One would have expected him to get up to the podium and say, “Awww, shucks.” Perhaps Billy Reid received the prestigious CFDA Award ($300,000 bucks) because fashion, as in politics, is turning it’s other cheek to the conservative right. After all, Billy Reid is based in Florence, Alabama, the Bible Belt or is it the new fashion capital? Yes, Billy Reid’s clothing line is cool, but is it Earth shattering?… Read More »

Now that I can admit that one of my guilty pleasures is watching Celebrity Apprentice, I am not sure that Donald Trump should run for President of the United States. Can he do both gigs? Would he put the heads of state in the board room to straighten their asses out…or better…get fired? In theory it sounds like a good idea…to run the Free World like a reality show. After all, politics is good inexpensive to produce content. But the reality of that reality show seems far fetched. What’s more, I am not sure how Melania Trump would fair against… Read More »

While we were toiling around New York City, dashing uptown to Lincoln Center, then down to MAC & MILK, and of course to must-see shows like Alexander Wang at Pier 94 and Rodarte on West 22nd Street, something far more important in terms of fashion was happening in the world that completely went off of Anna Wintour‘s radar. Yes, of course, she is so busy between running a magazine, seeing all the shows of in-book advertisers, plus those that will one day, producing a TV show for CBS-TV on Fashion’s Night Out and producing Fashion’s Night Out, it is understandable… Read More »

Since New York Fashion Week started, I’ve had this gnawing feeling in my gut that I could not quite put my finger on. Yes, it could be stress since I’m producing several projects during the week plus having to write my daily musings…where does the day go? Leading up to fashion week I was inundated with news about fashion bloggers. New ones, old ones, newly famous ones, bloggers photographed by Anna Wintour, a blogger that actually hired a publicist, others touting their front row-ness, bloggers who were cast in ad campaigns, bloggers sponsored by major fashion brands, bloggers with capsule… Read More »

Nothing is garnering more media attention than Fashion’s Night Out. Not the Oscars, the MTV Music Awards, New York Fashion Week, Snooki. Nothing.  When we look at what drove Anna Wintour to devise one of the greatest marketing plans on Earth, we see at the core, a beautiful, well-intended, generous, spirited gem of an idea. “Bring people back to the stores.” Funny, that when George Bush said the same thing after 9-11, that people should just “Go Shopping”, it was met with mixed emotions. Actually, Democrats were apoplectic. But if you think about it…it was a good idea. When is… Read More »
