Social Media Climbers…that’s what you are, as am I, and nary an insult cuts as close to the bone as that. If you have a Twitter account, then you are guilty as charged. If you have not started one, then it is because you are afraid that you don’t have what it takes. Everyone (and their mother, sadly) have taken to the blogosphere to position themselves as mavens, know-it-alls, and experts in all areas of pop culture, politics and fashion.
The Kardashians have killed off the Jones’ because now we don’t give a shit about keeping up with them anymore because now it is all about Keeping Up With The Kardashians. On some level Twitter has been the perfect platform for has-beens and never-wases to thrive. Random losers become winners, jerks get to showcase their jerkiness, and marketing geniuses get to strut their stuff to the point where you decide to stop buying their products due to the cringeworthy-ness of their marketing language.

As a design student, I'm pretty torn between wanting recognition for my work, and resisting the gilded statuses top designers seem to take on these days. It's an interesting dilemma. I always intend to design with full integrity, yet if a celebrity comes along and offers to promote a piece, is it considered "selling out" if I accept? The situation is subjective, of course, but the superficial promotional exchange at its core is undeniable. Then again, I wouldn't want to "toil in obscurity" either.
I think the only possible compromise (which you hinted at) is to find genuine communication with the general population through real ideas & brilliant work.
Just some musings from the design perspective 🙂
I want gathering utile info, this post has got me even more info! .
