Black Is The New Black?!?

Nov 3, 2009Breaking Newzzz

Finally, ‘black is the new black’, after Women’s Wear Daily and every other fashion rag or “news source” has claimed everything from Pink is the New Black, to Color Is the New Black, to Green is the New Black, to Obama is the New Black. We even had “Bitch is the New Black” to quote Tina Fey, from Saturday Night Live referring to Hillary Clinton. Why can’t black just be and stay black? Why must colors or things try to usurp it’s power every season? Can’t we all just get along? I have been a fan of black for more years that I care to name. As a fat kid, you learn early on that black is your only hope. The salespeople at the “Husky Shops” will drum this into your head. I don’t need a fashion editor to tell me what is the new black or otherwise. Last week WWD did a piece on how black “is quickly leaving its underground roots and going mainstream, propelling Rick Owens’ signature vision into a global phenomenon”. Excuse me? Do you think only downtown hipsters wear black? What planet do you live on? Granted, it would be nice to see less khaki bottoms and sherbet colored tops hanging around the many rounds in retail shops, but please let’s not give Rick Owens the credit for discovering black. It really is an insult to fat people everywhere. Black has been fierce for centuries, millenniums even. I don’t need some Johnny Come-Not-So-Lately designer to tell me this. And surely some stringer at Conde Nast cannot lay claim to this revelation. Why am I so incensed? Not sure. But you can check on my wardrobe anytime, plenty of black, no Rick Owens.

On the left, we have the Rock Owne, Klaus Nomi inspired all black ensemble. The New Black? Whatever.

Another "black" ensembel featured in the WWD article. More Klaus Nomi.

Seriously, out of the underground and into the minstream? On what planet?

I know, Klaus Nomi Planet.

And just because the Advocate claims that gay Is the New Black, what do they know, they ar being folded into Out Magazine as a newsletter.

I am a huge suporter of Breast Cancer Initiatives, but trust me, pink is not the new blakc. You can Think Pink, but that's as far as it goes.

And the combination of Gay and Pink make the worst combination on Earth.

And just because Kim Kardashian says so, Green ain't the new black. Green is money and the term is somewhat overused. If everyone who cliams they have gone green have, well, we wouldn't be in this mess. Green is the New Politically Correct Word...period.

Putting it on a T-shirt does not make it fact. Obama is the almost 48 year old black.

Rick Owens???? Underground roots? The question is not "which planet does this editor live on?", but "what year is stuck on the calendar?". This whole thing sounds so NYT Style Section. Maybe they'll pick it up in three months…

to kim's credit, she clearly isn't referring to green as the cliche symbol for environmentally friendly living–note the plastic bag and her plan to stop walking, start driving, stat.
