Miley Cyrus has a tongue. She has many reasons for which she can stick it out at us for sure. With all the hub-bub about her risque performance at the 2013 VMAs, it’s just funny to see how desperate the media is to brand her as a silly child, even though she is a woman who knows exactly what she is doing. On November 24, 2010 I wrote a piece called Hannah Montana: Rest In Peace in response to a scathing article about Miley in the New York Times Style section, which at that time was the least interesting fashion journal around. My point is that Miley has been pushing boundaries for years now so anything she does is a direct slap or tongue sticking to her days as the Disney possession.
Does she stick out her tongue too much, like in the video for We’re Won’t Stop? Yes. And during the performance on stage at the VMAs? Yes. And on the red carpet arrivals? Yes. But who of us doesn’t do something that annoys others?
Since childhood Miley Cyrus has been a work horse, keeping her family in riches, having the luck of the Irish for a career that has spanned decades and has been the envy of little girls worldwide. As Hannah Montana, she was the Golden Girl at Disney, an icon before she had her period and was the most sought after Pretty Young Thing. She was the Olsen Twin of her time and needed to break the chains of her controlling family, controlling management and the controlling Disney image machine that would not allow her to grow up.
I have been a fan of Miley Cyrus’ from the second she broke away from all that prepubescent nonsense and started crafting her own way, away from her flat-ironed father, her hipster mother and Disney.
I wrote this about Miley on May 30, 2011.
This Memorial Day, I’d like to gave props to Miley Cyrus, who I have consistently defended several times for just wanting to grow up, away from her annoying flat-ironed father and the clutches and constraints of Disney and Hannah Montana. Now, Miley is taking a turn for even the better by sharing her political views and Tweeting about how horrendous Rick Santorum is while making her fans aware that Urban Outfitters has financially supported the right-wing anti-gay zealot slash Tea Party Douche. You keep growing, girl.

Recently, Miley Cyrus alluded to being a stoner then eluded being a stoner. Clearly she is not, wink, wink, and even more clearly… who cares. Leave her be. If Miley wasn’t Miley I betcha she’d have gone to Occupy Somewhere because she is proving to be a smart, politically aware young woman. I am a huge fan of hers, not as much for her music in as much as her willingness to distance herself from her Disneyness.
Just days after I wrote this piece on Miley, called Occupy Miley Cyrus, her video hit youtube. It’s A Liberty Walk is her way of supporting the troops on the ground (literally). Some people are trashing her for being part of the 1% and not joining the people in the streets. Clearly those folks don’t have stalkers and have never been hounded by paparazzi. Frankly, anyone that dogs her for making the video, is a dog.
if it wasnt for her flat-ironed father, her hipster mother and Disney, she'd be working at the mall, maybe even Urban outfitters. After all, she has little to no talent, and she's starting to realize it
