Here’s a line that I can’t figure out: Oh, the mother and child reunion, is only a motion away. I get the other verse, when Paul Simon sings, Oh, the mother and child reunion is only a moment away. But, whatever, speaking of moments, Barneys New York is having their moment as we speak while they begin to roll out the “new, improved” Barneys New York since Mark Lee grabbed the reigns. First up, the new Fall ad campaign styled by and starring Carine Roitfeld. Most of what I see I like very much. Not swacked with the above image with Carine and her son Vladmir, but Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is all sorts of lovely.
And now for the store itself. Two fashionista, bitchy girlfriends and I walked the entire store this past week and their response was not stellar. Granted, new merchandise is just beginning to creep in, but starting with the new natural wood paneled wall in the lobby coupled with the moody grey floor tiles, we were feeling a bit claustrophobic. Granted, half of the space is still being renovated and surely I will reserve final judgment for when it is all said and done, but we liked the old floor better, first off. The designer floors did not have enough merchandise to tickle their fancy, but Chloe had them panting, along with Lanvin. Tell me something we already don’t know. Isn’t the the idea of Barneys supposed to be about finding amazing new signature pieces that will stay relevant in your wardrobe for more than one season? I don’t care how rich you are. And (B) you will wear that Rodarte metallic thing once, around or on Halloween and that’s it. Oooh, sacrilege. The other problem was the Missoni assortment on the 3rd floor was catastrophic. Personally, I can’t wait to see the Christmas windows.
