More Bla Bla on "ace awards"

#NotBestDressed is chock full of killer prints. And when the words killer and print live in the same sentence, imagine the dizzying array of dresses that were on the CFDA Awards red carpet. Surely everyone got the memo and is now blind.… Read More »

Busy Phillips needs to get busy finding a stylist if she is going to be the arm candy of Michelle Williams at the Oscars. And while I am at it, Maria Menounos and a few Gleeks need to follow suit, sans Michelle.… Read More »

What started out as a great way to connect college students has turned into a key marketing strategy for many industries…most notably…fashion. When you think that a bunch of beer keggers were the original sought out members of this non-elite community, one can’t fathom how that changed to the point where now, so many fashion designers are retooling their public relations efforts to reach their audience through such a down-market channel. Most of the people trolling Facebook would otherwise be shunned. You too can be a member of the Chanel or the Oscar de la Renta fan club. The thing… Read More »

Merle Ginsberg (Editor-in-Cheif, fashionrules.com) and I continue our cross continental SKYPE dialogue and compare notes on the CFDA Awards. MERLE: Shall we start with worst dressed? ABE: Is there a better place to start? How about the Olsen Twins? MERLE: Dumpster chic. ABE: I saw this fantastic video look book that The Row did on style.com, it featured nothing like those schmattas. They are such fashion icons….why I don’t know…but they are and they never get the red carpet down. MERLE: They are too young and too thin, to hide under all this fabric at a black tie. I also… Read More »

Last year at this time, I MEAN…WHAT?!? launched the Not Best Dressed Awards. It was fitting that the kick-off center around the CFDA Awards, where everyone in the room should just know better. After my initial shock at some the choices, I decided that the ones who were worst dressed had the least friends. OR, they were so feared, that no one dare contradict their choices. This year again, we see shocking taste in a room filled with taste-makers. These people are oxy-morons. Sure, I have been guilty of “Do as I say, not as I do”, but on a… Read More »

I MEAN…WHAT?!? presents Apples and Oranges, a new feature by Merle Ginsberg (Editor-in-Cheif, fashionrules.com) and Abe Gurko. This new column is a dialogue between two veteran style mavens as we trash…I mean…comment on The Best and Worst Dressed of the MTV AWARDS. Why Apples and Oranges? Well, Merle is based in Los Angeles and I am in New York…hence the fruity reference. Though Merle is currently in Tel Aviv on assignment, we still can call it Apples and Oranges because Israel has those kick-ass Jaffa oranges. The plan was to do the 5 Best and 5 Worst Dressed girls on… Read More »

Look, I am by no means a prude, but have you seen the new campaign to promote the Miss USA pageant? Donlad Trump‘s properties have just had a major Victoria’s Secret overhaul. The marketing campaign just launched and all 51 contestants have traded in their pageant hair and cornball, prom gowns for that skanky, Gross Baboon of the Year look that all of Tiger Woods‘ skanks share. Now, I am all for racy, but didn’t Carrie Prejean…nutbag hypocrite extraordinaire…get chastised for being a skank? Will this new pageant action shift the talent portion of the evening? Will we see Fellatio?… Read More »

JOIN THE NEW FACEBOOK PAGE TO HAVE BETTY WHITE HOST THE EMMY AWARDS ON AUGUST 29 AND THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND. http://bit.ly/deTowG The numbers are in from Saturday Night Live hosted by Betty White. Apparently, they had the best ratings in over a year and a half. That should be proof enough for the Emmy Awards to consider having Betty White co-host the August 29 telecast alongside Jimmy Fallon, who I am sure is a lovely guy, but will he be a ratings winner? The Betty White Saturday Night Live was by far the best show in centuries.… Read More »

Who doesn’t love a good Best Dressed List and to that point, who doesn’t love a Worst Dressed List even more. I see all your hands raised by this point. The thing about Best and Worst Dressed Lists are that they are so subjective. You have to take the comments from the source. For instance, I have my favorites from the American Music Awards. I made my selections early yesterday because I was traveling back from Iceland while the show was on. My Best Dressed List concurs with style.com‘s Look of the Day, whereas my choices and Huffington Post‘s collide.… Read More »

There’s nothing like an awards show to warm the cockles of my heart. It gives me a chance to put forth the I MEAN…WHAT?!? Not Best Dressed List. And last night, the CFDA Awards did not disappoint. There were some mini doozies…but doozies, just the same. It is probably best that I MEAN..WHAT?!? put out the Not Best Dressed List since we are not “true” fashion insiders and objectivity is the key. A “true” fashion insider is not likely to say something like, “What the hell was Aerin Lauder wearing, doesn’t she own a mirror?” because a true fashion insider… Read More »
