Am I Missing Something Here?

Sep 27, 2009Fashion

Before the Paris shows get under way, I wanted to stop and take stock of the images I saw today from paparazzi-land that struck me as either annoying, or questionable. Just because these people are photographed, does not make them interesting. I have done several editions on IMW, called The Party’s Over, where I feature images of “party people” that are basically a bunch of nobodies who think they are somebody, or shall we say, a wanna-be somebody that really is nobody, or perhaps, a wanna-be who will always be…in essence…a never-was. Am I clear? Does that make sense? It does to me. Anyway, today while pondering this batch of  images of people who surely do believe they are somebody, because for one reason or another they have achieved notoriety or fame. For that reason, they get followed by paparazzi, though frankly, who cares about them, begging the question: “Why do people care about these people?” Here are a few Pix of the Day featuring people that I am not convinced are all that and a bag of chips.

Avril Livigne has one great song and now she is doing a collection for Kohl's? Can we just say goodbye, dear.

Yeah, Rachel Bilson is a big "get" during fashion week...but excyse me...this outfit makes wrong seem right. Excuse me if I disagree with the fashion world.

Melanie Brwon, look, you are making an appearacne in the basement of some ridiculous store...hang it up. Be at peice with obsurity. I don't care how great your body is after the baby. That is not overly noteworthy.

Melanie Brown, look, you are making an appearacne in the basement of some ridiculous store...hang it up. Be at peace with obscurity. I don't care how great your body is after the illegitimate baby. That is not overly noteworthy. Stay in England.

These two deserve each ohter. Overated much. Fotz. Oh and love the headbands.

Oy, these two deserve each other. Overated much? Fotz. Oh...love the headbands.

All I can say i that if I worked on the fashion show that had the Real Housewives of New Jersey (complete with a real husband) sitting in the front row of a show that I wored on, I would quit my day job and write full-time. Which is frankly the goal, just vis-vis The Housewives.

All I can say i that if I worked on the fashion show that had the Real Housewives of New Jersey (complete with a real husband) sitting in the front row, I would quit my day job, move upstate and write full-time. Which is frankly the goal, just NOT vis-a-vis The Housewives.

This was the money shot at the Marc Jacongs show during NY Fashion Week. I feel very alone when I say that The Gagster makes me gagster. Enough with the silly outfits. Get off stage for one minute. It's quite relaxing here. I love Madonna forever...but she needs an image tune-up plenty.

This was the money shot at the Marc Jacobs show during NY Fashion Week. I feel very alone when I say that Lady Gaga...a.k.a...The Gagster makes me gagster. Enough with the silly outfits. Get off stage for one minute. Or do you want to be the next Anna Piaggi? And B) I love Madonna forever...but she needs an image tune-up...plenty...immediately.

I stand alone when I say that Blake Lively is beyond over-rated. She's no Blaire. And her character on Gossip Girl is so whiny. What am I not getting?

Do I stand alone when I say that Blake Lively is over-rated? She's no Blaire. When Anna Wintour put her on the cover of Vogue, it spoke volumes as to how nervous they were at Conde Nast. Good thing The September Issue and Fashions Night Out happened. Good save, Anna.

Hilary Duff has finally shaken her sister off her back but only time will tell if that's gonna save her career.

Hilary Duff has finally shaken her sister off her back but only time will tell if that's gonna save her career. I have one cocked eye.

I can go on and on…but I would rather hear from you and tell me who you are over.

you are not alone in your feelings of Lady gaga or Blake Lively.

i am over all reality TV. i was flipping through the cable guide the other day, and was inundated with choices such as "househusbands of hollywood', 'giuliana and bill' and other ridic people i don't know anything about.

the ones we would like to have a birds' eye view on – like Liza, Barbra, you know, talented folk? – we never will. and that is why they remain celebrities. there is no air of mystery anymore. its all out there, like last night's dirty underwear. less is more, people.

now, i must do laundry, and pray that the rain lets up in NY so this ball game can get underway.
