There Are Some Real Men Left Out There

Aug 13, 2009People We Lerve

Y’all know by now that I love a good laugh when it comes to the Emperor’s New Clothes school of fashion, be it for men or woman. The word is out that I.M.W. has people laughing out loud at the commentaries. (I do too, shh.) However, not every day has to be riddled with the bashing of people, places and things, which I do in the most loving way. If you are a steady reader, you would know that I do throw in serious items and opinions, and now that my horizon is expanding, as I’ve become a correspondent for stylecaster.com, I intend to do some traditional reporting as well, BUT with an I Mean…What?!? twist. Yesterday I re-introduced the Manzie. Now that’s all fine and good, and granted…hilare…so now I want to give a few shout outs to the men’s wear collections that seem to want to cater to men, real men. You remember them. Good, old-fashioned, sexy, men (pre-metrosexual) that wanna look good without being too affected, or overly dandy. Men, be they straight without acting like frat house idiots or gay, who are gay in the sack and not on their sleeve. Am I making myself clear? Anyhoo, a little acknowledgment is needed here after the “Season of the Manzie.”

Ralph Lauren has it going on as always. I life his bold use of color on the shirt. It's not nelly at all.

Let's face it, this editorial is not going to bowl you over. But the use of color I think is fresh. Not inventive. But fresh.

The overall look seems a bit forced, but a modified combination here if fine. I actually had those same pants from Haggar when I was a kid. Ahh, Haggar, their new motto must be "When style doesn't matter".

Oops, I guess Ralph had to throw in one Manzie outfit, so's not to alienate the Manzie population. I mean, come one, this looks like a wardrobe test for The Great Gatsby.

John Bartlett did a butch collection for Claiborne. And good for him. I love this outfit.

Look, Michelle Obama has inspired all of us to wear cardigans. This one does the trick.

No one said this was going to ground breaking, but that leather jacket does have nice detailing.

It's clean, simple, modern, somehwat vintage-y, and the only comment really is the model's peristantly ursed lips, The collection is fine.

Caulfield Preparatory is the new collection inspired by Holden Caulfield. Now, this is a fresh inspiration if I evenr heard one. The fact remains, we have to go back into the anals of literature to come up with some snappy pieces for the modern day man. I say if the page turns, turn it.

Again, this look is not going to change anyone's life...on the contrary. But it's kind of chill and sexy if you ask me.

OK. I think he doesn't smoke a pipe in real life, but kudos to the stylist for trying...a bit too hard. The blakc and white shirt is great. No?

Yes, Harvard is getting into the schmateh business. ike educating our residents is not enough to do. The Harvard Square collection is actually pretty decent, it's just that the photo stylist is a definitel Manzie. The rolling of the pants on the left and the shortening of the shorts an inch too high is proof.

There is a mens' pants like called Bonobos. Now I would not wear them, but they were started by a straight dude who hated what themain floor men's offerings were. You know, those hoorendous pleated numbers with way too baggy legs, too high a waist and you get the drift. The Haggars of the world. So they started this line, it's apparently kicking ass, though they are a bit too stovepipe for me. But you go, straight man. (As opposed to you go, girl.)
