More Bla Bla on "- New York Fashion Week -"
Japan Fashion Week
In support of Japan Fashion Week, we invite you to check out what the Japanese designers are up to this week. Please visit their website that has been created to keep the world in touch with their current market. Lord knows, when New York City was in the midst of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in 2001 on that fateful morning of September 11, the loss and devastation that impacted this city and the entire fashion industry was heavy and deep. So too, with a heavy heart, are the people in the Japanese fashion industry trying to “act as if” and… Read More »
What’s all the fuss about Snooki being cast, I mean, booked at Rutgers University? It should come as a surprise to no one that we as a society have gone so far off the mark of excellence, that a Snooki appearance actually makes total sense. Frankly, I am surprised that she will not be the commencement speaker, but the fact remains that Snooki is part of a Rutgers University Programming Association sponsored comedy show. Why anyone is bringing Toni Morrison into this conversation is preposterous. Toni is sooo not funny. Granted, it is shocking that $32,000 is what Snooki gets… Read More »
Gemma Arterton To Star In G-STAR
There is a new beauty on the horizon and G-STAR’s got her. Gemma Arterton, who has starred in such blockbusters as Prince of Persia, Quantum of Solace and Clash of the Titans (that’s a lot of of’s) will replace Liv Tyler as the campaign model for the Spring/Summer G-Star Raw campaign. I mean…how beautiful is she? My friend toured with Gemma on the Prince of Persia junket and said she is so lovely, down to Earth and sweet. That’s especially nice to hear when you know how certain “actress-types” can act like swans get when they get a whiff of… Read More »
Not a day goes by that someone who simply has no business in the fashion business gets into the business of fashion. Today’s nonsensical entry into the schmatta business is the New York Knicks‘ 6 foot 10 inch forward, Amar’e Stoudemire. Surely you remember him from last season’s fashion week when Anna Wintour had him sit next to her and Hamish Bowles at the Tommy Hilfiger show. Now there was a trinella if I ever saw one. Word is that Amar’e and Rachel Roy are teaming up to design a women’s collection for Macy’s. Would somebody please stick a fork… Read More »
Nepal Fashion Week
While we were toiling around New York City, dashing uptown to Lincoln Center, then down to MAC & MILK, and of course to must-see shows like Alexander Wang at Pier 94 and Rodarte on West 22nd Street, something far more important in terms of fashion was happening in the world that completely went off of Anna Wintour‘s radar. Yes, of course, she is so busy between running a magazine, seeing all the shows of in-book advertisers, plus those that will one day, producing a TV show for CBS-TV on Fashion’s Night Out and producing Fashion’s Night Out, it is understandable… Read More »
Are Fashion Bloggers Sooo Last Season?!?
Since New York Fashion Week started, I’ve had this gnawing feeling in my gut that I could not quite put my finger on. Yes, it could be stress since I’m producing several projects during the week plus having to write my daily musings…where does the day go? Leading up to fashion week I was inundated with news about fashion bloggers. New ones, old ones, newly famous ones, bloggers photographed by Anna Wintour, a blogger that actually hired a publicist, others touting their front row-ness, bloggers who were cast in ad campaigns, bloggers sponsored by major fashion brands, bloggers with capsule… Read More »

New York Fashion Week…And We’re Off…
It’s Vena Cava in the lead…wait…what’s this? Nicholas K is coming up around the bend leaving Ruffian and Richard Chai in the dust… And the fashion horse race is on! Don’t know about you, but I am exhausted already from the Tri-fecta that is New York Fashion Week. Between the shows uptown and downtown coupled with Fashion’s Night Out, one needs an oxygen tank and a jet pack to get to where all the main events are happening around New York City. With all the strategic planning for Fashion’s Night Out and the Spring ’11 fashion shows in full gallop,… Read More »
What do Selma Blair, Christina Ricci, Kelly Rowland, Sean Lennon, Robin Thicke, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Helena Christensen, Miike Snow, DJ Cassidy, Ali Hewson, Harley Viera Newton, Mia Morretti have in common? Fashion’s Night Out in the Meatpacking District, which we have sub-named…Fashion Lives Downtown. Say what you want about Fashion’s Night Out, that Anna is only doing this for Vogue, or that Jews in Borough Park are mortified because it falls on Rosh Hashanah, or that this is about drinking and not shopping, but Fashion’s Night Out is like The (Fabulous) Blob and literally engulfing all of Manhattan. Yes, I… Read More »
Australia + Fashion = Sobbing
Australia Fashion Week, or Rosemount-Sydney Fashion Festival or some such nonsensical title is under way. And I mean way down under way. So under that if you skip it…you’ll be better off. Of course we love Colette Dinnigan and Sass & Bide…but the rest of those people…yikes. There really isn’t much to say because action and these visuals speak louder than words. What I do know is that if it ain’t New York, Paris, London, Milan and MAYBE Tokyo…but not even…then all these other Fashion Weeks can fade into the sunset. I know…it generates industry…yada yada…so leave the PR to… Read More »
Fashion’s Night In
Nothing is garnering more media attention than Fashion’s Night Out. Not the Oscars, the MTV Music Awards, New York Fashion Week, Snooki. Nothing. When we look at what drove Anna Wintour to devise one of the greatest marketing plans on Earth, we see at the core, a beautiful, well-intended, generous, spirited gem of an idea. “Bring people back to the stores.” Funny, that when George Bush said the same thing after 9-11, that people should just “Go Shopping”, it was met with mixed emotions. Actually, Democrats were apoplectic. But if you think about it…it was a good idea. When is… Read More »
