More Bla Bla on "cher"

The sad truth is that the social media landscape has become overpopulated with social media climbers. What started out as a perfectly communal idea, well, rating chicks on college campuses, but beyond that, keeping in touch with friends and making new ones, has turned into a massive mass marketing mess. Sprinkle that with a slew of celebrities spewing nonsense, and what is happening is something I call “visual white noise”. Facebook and Twitter are dissolving into one long ad roll. There is no doubt that CBS-TV is hoping that Ashton Kutcher will suck up to his millions of Twitter followers,… Read More »

Couldn’t let this one go by. Yesterday, Page Six compared the upcoming nuptials of Prince William to Kate Middleton with the pending marriage of Victoria’s Secret stunner Lily Aldridge to Kings of Leon front-man, Caleb Followill. Now, look, I am by no means an obsessive Royal Watcher, or an anarchist, nor am I hip enough to know the name of the front man for any group these days, but to put the two events in the same category, well, the word stretch seems like a stretch.… Read More »

After watching all the Elizabeth Taylor coverage, I thought about my cute Elizabeth Taylor moment that I was lucky enough to have. It was ten years ago at Carrie Fisher‘s house. Carrie is known in the Hollywood inner circles for having the best dinner parties, and her annual Carrie Fisher & Penny Marshall joint birthday parties were THE party of the year in those days. Having worked for Carrie in the 90’s, I would coordinate them, and unlike any other celebrity party, these were so hush hush, no one besides the top 200 Hollywood A-Listers were ever invited. Invitations would… Read More »

One of New York’s mainstays on the social and nightlife landscape is the incomparable Patrick McMullan. He recently launched PMc Magazine, which will feature fashion, entertainment, parties, events, and well, all groovy things. I am happy to be part of this venture and will do whatever Patrick wants. Stay tuned. In the meanwhile if you are bored, please read my short interview. 1: Who am I? My name is Abe Gurko…though I go by Abe as in Cher…one name only. 2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on? I have a boutique PR and event… Read More »

And the gloves are off. Who will win the ratings battle between The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills versus The Real Housewives of New York City this season? Duh. Beverly Hills of course. I have never been a big fan or watcher of the New York housewives because–well–who cares about these run of the mill ladies who lunch? Or in the case of Bethenny Frankel, liquid lunch. The Beverly Hills broads live an aspirational, opulent lifestyle whereas the New York ladies are a bunch of yentas, living seemingly above their means or worse–Brooklyn. Needless to say the Beverly Hills broads… Read More »

Last season I reviewed Jersey Shore and somehow this season’s review is eerily similar. Could it be because nothing has really changed besides their location? The Return to the Jersey Shore is actually a better title for season three. Do we even call them seasons? They are more like outings. Perhaps even a series of mini-series. Jersey Shore is like Roots without the class. In Thursday night’s season opener, we met an even tackier version of Snooki, her friend Deena. What can I say besides Jersey Shore is chock-full of cursing chubby people. OK, so The Situation has good abs,… Read More »

I went to a parochial school and remember one of my tougher teachers yelling at a little kid who was crying for some reason or another to, “Stop that blubbering”. No, it was not directed at me. Though I distinctly remember that the use of the word “blubbering” made me so uncomfortable because I was a chubby kid. Blubbering stings. I have not heard that term used since then, but it seems most appropriate to describe the new leaders of the Republican Party. Could you just imagine what these born again Tea Baggers, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner would say… Read More »

I am a Democrat. I am also furious. Not that we lost the House. We all should have known that was coming and been psychologically prepared for the landslide. Seeing Barack Obama dumbfounded the next day at the press conference proves that, as he even referred to, “the glass bubble” has kept him at arms length from the American people. After all, every bloviator accuses him of that or being an “aloof Harvard professor”. Say what you want about Obama, but first look at this website that documents all the great things he has done in the last two years.… Read More »

Alan Cumming boldly came out swinging at the Obama Administration and all I can say is “two snaps up” to that. Alan says that Obama has done, and I quote, “Didly squat for gay rights.” Well, kids, as sad as all this is, what can I say besides I told you so, long ago when everyone was taken by Obama’s smile on the campaign trail, while turning their backs on Hillary Clinton. It was June 29, 2007, early on in the game at the Howard University hosted debate for the Democratic nominees. I’ll never forget it. The question came to… Read More »

Last night’s debate between Delaware Senate hopefuls Christine O’Donnell and Chris Coons was as good as television gets, politically speaking. Who would have thunk that a face-off for the Delaware Senate would be the most talked about debate since Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? Any way you slice it, this was riveting television and what made it entertaining was O’Donnell’s facial reactions anytime Coons opened his mouth. We are at a moment in history where inconsequential people are setting the tone for the future of our democracy. If you string together Christine O’Donnell’s television appearances from her days on Bill… Read More »
