More Bla Bla on "oscar "

Kobe Bryant did the unthinkable. In a moment of heated passion and utter annoyance at a play on a basketball court, he spewed the two words that no homosexual likes to hear. This quickly became GLAAD’s call to arms, rainbow flag in hand, crying (with tears) foul. There was a time that simply the F-word was taboo extraordinaire on the courts with penalties mounting as the inner city kids were taking over the sport. This recent Kobe-Gate multiplies the drama times two because when he screamed F**cking Fa**ot, he was not just whistling Dixie. It was a double entendre and… Read More »

Oy, does the term TMI (too much information) apply here? That would be a yes. A new book, Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India, depicts the Indian icon as a sexual weirdo who left his wife in 1908 for a German-Jewish architect and bodybuilder. Talk about moonlighting. The tome, written by Pulitzer prizing #winning author, Joseph Lelyveld, addresses some of the letters and dishy bits about the romance the two had for six years. Recently, the Oscar-winning Best Film, Gandhi, was on TCM and no where does it mention this factoid. I loved that film. And now,… Read More »

Madam Gaga and the Twinzees, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, will be all up in the CFDA Awards this year. Stay tuned to the Best and Worst Dressed like we did last year. We called it the CFDA Not Best Dress List.… Read More »

Hot off the rumor mill! Riccardo Tisci is replacing John Galliano at the House of Dior. Really? But Carine Roitfeld will be the resident stylist. Double really? As you know, I am all about Haider Ackermann, and my suggestion was for him to replace Galliano. But the world surely does not revolve around me and what I think. Anyhoo, I’d like to think that Haider has an unofficial deal in place with Karl Lagerfeld to follow him at Chanel, so why go to Dior? Especially with all the fashion bitches, claws out, ready to trash next season’s collection, no matter… Read More »

UPDATE March 8, 2011: It’s official: black IS back! Don’t believe me? Check out the dark mood at Chanel. We all know that Karl Lagerfeld rules the fashion roost worldwide. So, if Karl says “Black uber alles” then so it is. And, from the looks of his somewhat over stuffed collection, black is here and hopefully to stay. When I say overstuffed, I mean the quilted, unflattering jumpsuits that will never live on the streets, but just in the magazines. For now, I am reveling in Black Power! March 7, 2011: For the past few seasons, fashion editors have been… Read More »

Charlie Sheen is the Grossest Baboon Of The Year…this or any other. UPDATE TO MY UPDATE: Have you seen any of the interviews with Charlie Sheen? His arrogance knows no bounds. He occasionally says funny things, but the joke ultimately is on us, because he gets to stay him, and we get to watch. However this drama ends regarding the CBS Show Two and a Half Men, he will go on to make more millions and prove his arrogance was the right way to be. Besides the cast and crew of TAAHM, who are the biggest losers here, I feel… Read More »

On the eve of the Oscars (Erev Oscars in Hebrew), I wanted to take this moment to thank my agent, God, my family, Carrie Fisher and since I am single, I won’t be making the unforgivable faux pas of not thanking my significant other. Since everything is all about the Oscars this weekend, I wanted to thank my friend Marc Friedland, an award winning (well, maybe not an Oscar, but an award, nonetheless) graphic designer who was enrolled by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to re-do the famous “The Envelope Please” envelopes. So, here they are. So… Read More »

Say what you want, but I am convinced that the reason The Social Network is winning Best Film at all the awards shows, as it will for the Oscars, is because Hollywood is indirectly putting their hand out to Mark Zuckerberg for future film financing. The subliminal message is: “We’ll help you rebuild your character since the movie shows what an unlikeable guy you really are, but it will cost you.” The Social Network is definitely a good movie, but Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg is such a nudnik, that it made it hard for me to fall in love with… Read More »

Lucky for me, I get to see movies before they are released and this has been quite a week for screenings. Starting with Black Swan, a movie so exhausting, it felt like a spinning class. So much of why I like Black Swan has everything to do with Natalie Portman‘s performance and Mila Kunis‘ presence in this film, cementing her as a really good actress. The focus though has to be on Natalie. We can cut to the Oscars now and the drama between giving the much deserved Best Actress award to Annette Bening for her great performance in The… Read More »

Billy Reid. (Silence) Billy Reid. (Thump, he fainted and fell to the floor) Billy Reid. Well, maybe he didn’t faint, but the immediate surprise in the room was surely palpable. One would have expected him to get up to the podium and say, “Awww, shucks.” Perhaps Billy Reid received the prestigious CFDA Award ($300,000 bucks) because fashion, as in politics, is turning it’s other cheek to the conservative right. After all, Billy Reid is based in Florence, Alabama, the Bible Belt or is it the new fashion capital? Yes, Billy Reid’s clothing line is cool, but is it Earth shattering?… Read More »
