Return of the Manzie

Jun 22, 2011Fashion

Two years ago I coined the phrase Manzie in response to the men’s runway shows in Paris, Milan and New York. That phrase caught on like wildfire within the industry and in a short time after that, the looks being thrown down the runway became increasingly butch. Designers like Billy Reid set a new tone and standard for what men should look like and all was well in Glocca Morra. That was then and this is now. There is something in the air and it is living up to Lord Alfred Tennyson‘s poem, Locksley Hall when it says, “In the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Well, fancy is the operative word for these first two collections in Milan for Spring 12 from Burberry and Jil Sander. Fancy or Nancy.

Christopher Bailey thinks that a crop-top parka is suitable for spring.

That an otherwise winter ensemble is perfect for spring when coupled with silk boxer shorts.

That this Missoni on crack sweater won't wend up in Century 21, when donkey's fly.

What season is this again?

The cowl neck is never a good thing and especially not for men.

have I forgot to mention that beanie ridiculousness?

This outfit reminds me of that two season ago Prada that was also featured on a the Manzie Report.

See what I mean?

Raf Simons designs for a Manzie for all Seasons.

As if.

I sort of get it.

Now here's a look that will get you force.

This look made Little Lord Fauntleroy roll his eyes.

What retailer went backstage and said, "Raf, I am doubling the size of my order from last year." Answer: No one.

No, that last look was not a one-off.

This is day one, I look forward to more of the same. It helps me sharpen my tool.
