More Bla Bla on "elizabeth taylor"

After watching all the Elizabeth Taylor coverage, I thought about my cute Elizabeth Taylor moment that I was lucky enough to have. It was ten years ago at Carrie Fisher‘s house. Carrie is known in the Hollywood inner circles for having the best dinner parties, and her annual Carrie Fisher & Penny Marshall joint birthday parties were THE party of the year in those days. Having worked for Carrie in the 90’s, I would coordinate them, and unlike any other celebrity party, these were so hush hush, no one besides the top 200 Hollywood A-Listers were ever invited. Invitations would… Read More »

It is a sad day indeed. My favorite Hollywood icon, Elizabeth Taylor, passed away this morning. My sister and I were talking about how amazing she was and that no one comes close to her stature and grace. She had an incredible impact on our society though her life’s work of spearheading and supporting the HIV/AIDS community. That, coupled with her amazing talent and divine beauty, well, there’s no one like her in Hollywood anymore. It is truly the end of Hollywood glamour. Yeah, you can mention Angelina Jolie…ish. But as the sun sets on Dame Elizabeth Taylor, please take… Read More »

I just needed to post these images for Elizabeth Taylor circa 1963 from Cleopatra. I mean come on…who is as remotely beautiful as this in the movie business today? Kiera Knightly? I don’t think so. Penelope Cruz? Angelina JIloe? Maybe-ish. She’s stunning, sure, but La Liz was the most gorgeous thing that ever walked the sound stages…and Earth for that matter. My assistant, Ryan, thinks Snooki is.… Read More »

Here’s the thing about going through your third midlife crisis: If you are going to do it, do it while living at the home of Carrie Fisher. On the eve of my scheduled return from Los Angeles to New York—which I had escaped in January in order to: A) Completely avoid the winter weather, and B) Deal with Midlife Crisis #3—I paid a visit to Carrie. As always, I was met with a warm greeting, and we sat on the bed chatting, catching up, and catching fire. The rumors had just begun to swirl about the original Star Wars “Dream… Read More »

Certain mistakes on the pink carpet of the Costume Institute Gala were inexcusable. I mean even Marc Jacobs had a better dress on than some of these gals.… Read More »

With the passing of Elizabeth Taylor, there is a hole in the celebrity fragrance market that Justin Bieber can fill with the launch of his new product line, Justin Bieber Scented Dog Tags. Move over Jennifer Aniston with your Lolavie nonsense because The Biebs is here with a fresh take on how to smell. The celebrity fragrance and celebrity designer industry is alive and kicking and Justin’s dog tags are the best of both worlds. It is a fragrance that will spice up your wardrobe, while spicing up the way you smell. It is borderline brilliant in a kitsch kind… Read More »

As an aging beauty, well, aging anyway, I am forever on the prowl for amazing moisturizers. My mother taught me at an early age to slather on the moisturizer. She was a Ponds Cold Cream and Helena Rubinstein addict. I guess my tendency for addictions comes from her. I have spent the last 30 years going from one moisturizer to another, since Helena Rubinstein went out of business, and left to my own devices. Until last year, I had been using Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Skin Firming Cream, until that was taken off the market. I snapped up every… Read More »

Tony Curtis and Eddie Fisher passed last week. Having experienced the passing-on of both my parents, I wanted to take this moment from commenting on Paris Fashion Week and acknowledge Carrie Fisher and Jamie Lee Curtis‘s sad losses. Those two have so much in common: Raised by America’s Sweethearts, 1950’s iconic Hollywood couples Divorce and scandal Both in recovery Have good careers on their own right Whatever the circumstances, no matter how unavailable our fathers were growing up (I have then in common with them, too), we are never prepared for our parents dying. It is not in our DNA.… Read More »

Reading all the reviews from the Milan runways, the term “seventies” is bandied about quite a bit. Duh…it was “The Only” time in fashion. A few major trends are spilling off the catwalks in Milan that are clear and present, most notably, color. But not just pops of color, rather, full-on kaleidoscopes of prints and vibrant hues of exhausting jewel tones on acid. Acid…that is very 70’s, too…1973 to be exact, when my third addiction kicked in. But I digress. One recurring look on many runways that I noticed was more 60’s than 70’s really, and that is the revival… Read More »
