Greetings From Reykjavik

Nov 22, 2009People We Lerve

I’m in Reykjavik, Iceland and now that the sun finally came up (11am-ish) I can get out of bed and into the streets. Not coming up with any pearls of wisdom, or anything to laugh about. Am here supporting my friend Steinunn who is having a retrospective exhibition at the Reykjavik Art Museum. She was also just honored with the title Artist Laureate, first time ever to a fashion designer. How this collection does not transcend the borders of the US is astonishing. Everything she does is seasons a head of the curve. Case in point, ruffles. The big story from the recent Spring 10 shows was ruffles, ruffles, ruffles. Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, bla and bla.

Well, Steinunn has been doing that for a while. The other news this season was feathery, fringy things. Check…done and done. Steinunn did a feathered fur skirt and a whole fringe collection a couple years ago. Now, it’s all over the runways. Timing is everything, I guess. Anyway, Steinunn’s amazing. I know her next collection is also going to shift in a new direction. I for one am looking forward to that. Anyhoo, see you stateside.
