Yesterday I reported on that which was yikes from the Spring Couture Collections in Paris. Here are a few more entries to round out my overview on what not to wear. First of all, Chanel was kind of boring. That said, a good editing was in order because 67 looks was not necessary. Besides that, the few other couture houses, and I use the term loosely, were simply bla. Not much else to say really because pictures say a thousand words.… Read More »

Spring is in the air. Well…maybe not the weather part but surely the Spring Couture Collections are in full regalia in Paris. Did you ever stop to wonder what you would do if you were a real lady who lunches and had the resources (and the old, fat, rich husband) to be one of those lucky few who can afford to buy couture each season? Ode to the good life. Winters in Gstaad, Christmas in Martinique with Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott, pied-à-terres in Paris AND New York, villas in Bel-Air AND Lake Como next door to George Clooney. What… Read More »

The incredibly colorful Milan Fashion Week came to a close with a stunning collection from Giorgio Armani, a symphony in navy blue. There is much optimism in the air, buyers are heralding the return of the 70’s, hippies that are beyond chic, new shapes that are fresh and flowing and color, color everywhere. Except at Dolce & Gabbana, where white was the main attraction, similar to the many collections shown in New York. As anticipation runs high for Paris Fashion Week, I found a couple of presentations that surely will NOT foreshadow The New Look from Paris. On the contrary,… Read More »

So, lookie here. The new BFF’s of the media whore world are Paris Hilton and Snooki. Yikes. One thing is to do a photo op. The other is planning overnights at the Jersey Shore. Paris…does this mean there’s another porn video in the near future to regain your own status? – GAWKER… Read More »

Perusing the images from the recent The 12th Annual Young Hollywood Awards felt more like an episode of  The I MEAN…WHAT?!? Nobody News. There was a time when Britney, Lindsay, and Paris made their way down the red carpet, cementing Young Hollywood as the new media focus. They were the new Naomi, Linda and Christie. Now those chicks are onto other things…what…I am not sure…but who or what was at this event in their stead was sad and not hot…and in some cases…not young. Seems like this Young Hollywood thing is over. Let’s start with Brittny Gastineau. First of all,… Read More »

Oy, poor Lindsay Lohan. I was pleased that they were giving her a second chance at Emanuel Ungaro. That was reported a while back anyway. I just read in Women’s Wear Daily that Lindsay was nowhere to be found this morning at the fashion show. The dish I got from my sources was that Mounir Moufarrige, a known sycophant, wanted to be near Lindsay, and soak up some of that paparazzi glow, so he signed her as the Creative Director at Ungaro last year. Apparently, people who were intimately involved in some of those meetings and dinners were breching (vomiting… Read More »

It’s astonishing how unimportant Los Angeles Fashion Week is when you think about Hollywood once ruled, and how Adrian, Edith Head and Orry-Kelly and many others were major influences. Somehow, the Los Angeles fashion scene fell short and all the other major fashion cities excluding Madrid reference Old Hollywood all the time, as in the case of John Galliano’s amazing Spring 10 collection. By the time the last dress sashays down the runway in Paris, nobody wants to see another dress…like ever again…at least not until next season. But alas, there’s Los Angeles Fashion Week-let. And a sad little market… Read More »

By this phase of Word Fashion Week having seen two million looks from (what seems like) six thousand runways on two million models having sipped eighteen thousand glasses of champagne…phew. I am sure glad I am not a fashion editor or Anna Piaggi…which begs the question…does she still work at Italian Vogue? Anyhoo, doesn’t matter. She needs a nap. My point is: that is a lot of dresses to sift through and surely the eyes must be glazed over and I’d imagine the judgment is questionable by this point. For instance, I see plenty of blunders in such wonderful collections… Read More »

The Paris shows are where we loook for the answers to: What is fashion? What will we be wearing next season? What length will skirts be? Color palette? It’s really way to much pressure to put on one city. Especially when so much of what is shown is borderline nonsense. I wonder no more why so much of the editorial in Vogue centers around the main French houses, well, that because they are the ones worth featuring. I saw Jane Campion’s Bright Star last night and sobbed through the sheer beauty and majesty of her direction and costumes. The bright… Read More »

Who doesn’t look forward to the Paris shows? Oh…I see. Well then, let’s focus on the people like me who are very interested in what the great French houses are doing for the season. As the Paris shows wind down World Fashion Week (my new favorite term), I look forward to that large mug of coffee while perusing Women’s Wear Daily, style.com and Cathy Horyn’s review in The New York Times. I love that WWD glides over hot messes and style.com’s willingness to sift out the nugget of gold from the muck…except in the case of Maison Martin Margiela…yikes. But… Read More »
