Fashion’s Night Out And About…Thanks Anna
There are millions of opinions about Fashion’s Night Out and half of them belong to me. My client, the Meatpacking District, was agog with festivities, in the streets, in the stores, the energy was palpable from the second the clock struck 6PM. It was like New Year’s Eve came early…only with shopping. Did you buy something? I did. Everyone that participated in Fashion Lives Downtown did a fantastic job and this new found retail holiday needs to happen every month. Maybe not with such a fervor and expense. But Fashion’s Night Out needs to be monthly. Period. Retailers needs more… Read More »
New York Fashion Week…And We’re Off…
It’s Vena Cava in the lead…wait…what’s this? Nicholas K is coming up around the bend leaving Ruffian and Richard Chai in the dust… And the fashion horse race is on! Don’t know about you, but I am exhausted already from the Tri-fecta that is New York Fashion Week. Between the shows uptown and downtown coupled with Fashion’s Night Out, one needs an oxygen tank and a jet pack to get to where all the main events are happening around New York City. With all the strategic planning for Fashion’s Night Out and the Spring ’11 fashion shows in full gallop,… Read More »
Dan Black, “Yours”
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI2_41aFXxc FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—- New York, New York (September 9, 2010) – Dan Black, Paris-based, electro-pop singer with Universal Music and current two time VMA nominee, was chosen to film a fashion/music video for designer Paul La Fontaine. The new menswear collection launched this week in New York features updated traditional separates. Producer, Abe Gurko selected Dan Black to be featured in the video “is not a commercial nor an artwork nor a fashion shoot nor a music video, but a hybrid of all four — an exercise in content creation that is designed to summon up that most elusive… Read More »
What do Selma Blair, Christina Ricci, Kelly Rowland, Sean Lennon, Robin Thicke, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Helena Christensen, Miike Snow, DJ Cassidy, Ali Hewson, Harley Viera Newton, Mia Morretti have in common? Fashion’s Night Out in the Meatpacking District, which we have sub-named…Fashion Lives Downtown. Say what you want about Fashion’s Night Out, that Anna is only doing this for Vogue, or that Jews in Borough Park are mortified because it falls on Rosh Hashanah, or that this is about drinking and not shopping, but Fashion’s Night Out is like The (Fabulous) Blob and literally engulfing all of Manhattan. Yes, I… Read More »
Sears? Really?
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE4YVk1n6t8 Somebody please hold me up, I am dizzy from having just watched the Sears promotional video on fall footwear trend news. Sears and trend in the same sentence is a stretch. And this is proof of the downside to online video content that is contributing to the bastardization of fashion. There I was, innocently perusing Perez Hilton, he who has sold out to anyone that will pay him a dime, and lo and behold, was the commercial for Sears, staring Elle magazine stylist Francesca Mills. Here’s another downside to online original video content, literally everyone and their cousin thinks… Read More »
Men’s Make-Up
Finally, men can come out of the closet…and we are not talking about their sexuality here, rather, that men can openly say they use cosmetics and still maintain their butchness…ish. The New York Times Style section has an article about the rapidly growing market of cosmetics created exclusively for men. I love that the evolution of man boils down to his desire to maintain his youth and beauty. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. On the contrary. When men became admitted metrosexuals…though I prefer the term Manzies for this purpose…all bets were off. Suddenly, “straight” men were allowed to… Read More »
The Emmy Up-Do…Don’t
Everyone and their cousin is chiming in on who looked great or who looked like crap on the Emmy Red Carpet. Surely I am tuning in tonight to hear Joan Rivers and Kelly Osbourne’s two cents on who they think is Best and Worst Dress. SIDEBAR: Just saw Joan Rivers’ Piece of Work this weekend, and she really is a dynamo. Glad E! brought her back into their fold. Anyhoo, yes, I can’t agree more with most of the commentaries but one thing I cannot forgive is the Emmy Up Do. I’m sorry, but there are two moments in a… Read More »
Just putting it out there that I MEAN…WHAT?!? is looking for an able bodied human that is prolific on social media activations for a series of projects beginning now. Not only would the candidate be included in all things I MEAN…WHAT?!?, but they will also interact with the fashion clients being represented by the New York City based parent company ABE NYC, INC. The position will start out as part-time but will surely swing into a full-time situation given the candidate’s effectiveness during the critical New York Fashion Week trial period. See below requirements and if you fit the bill,… Read More »
Australia + Fashion = Sobbing
Australia Fashion Week, or Rosemount-Sydney Fashion Festival or some such nonsensical title is under way. And I mean way down under way. So under that if you skip it…you’ll be better off. Of course we love Colette Dinnigan and Sass & Bide…but the rest of those people…yikes. There really isn’t much to say because action and these visuals speak louder than words. What I do know is that if it ain’t New York, Paris, London, Milan and MAYBE Tokyo…but not even…then all these other Fashion Weeks can fade into the sunset. I know…it generates industry…yada yada…so leave the PR to… Read More »
It is not often that I toot my own horn about the work work that I do for ABE NYC, INC. But every so often, there comes a serendipitous moment where the stars align and the pieces of the fashion puzzle come together in perfect harmony. And speaking of harmony, please click on the image and read the piece in today’s Time.com about my current project with Dan Black and Paul La Fontaine. Will be finishing the edit and posting the video this week. Please stay tuned.… Read More »
