More Bla Bla on "Tom Ford"

There is no doubt that the future holds many keys to the age old question: Where can I find that dress that So-n-So was wearing in that movie I saw last night? As technology marches on, you can be rest assured that the movie going experience is headed in the direction of “escape to the movies for retail therapy”. We are talking about a far more sophisticated situation that what we have now, which is that tacky, knock-off, dress company ABS by Jewish Guy that gets featured on The Insider the night after ever big award show. “Wanna look like… Read More »

Not sure where you stand with the results of last night’s Golden Globes, but can we all agree that it is a sad state of affairs if The Hangover and Avatar are the best movies of the year. Best Cash Cows? For sure. But Best Movies? Really? I loved Avatar, was thoroughly entertained. Don’t get me wrong, it was a visual masterpiece. The script was a tad hokie. Was it as moving and gut/heart-wrenching as The Hurt Locker or Precious? I don’t think so. This year is surely an upset for Kathryn Bigelow, who totally deserves to win every award.… Read More »

Last night I went to a screening of A Single Man, Tom Ford‘s maiden voyage into film making. There has been plenty of hype around his wanting to be a director since the day he left Gucci five years ago. He made all the right moves, too. Bought a fierce house in the desert near Palm Springs, schmoozed up Bryan Lourd at CAA and totally made the scene in Los Angeles, yet chose New York to launch his signature clothing company. Ford’s return to the schmatta business was a subtle hint that Hollywood was not waiting for the fashion superstar… Read More »

So help me if they cast Tom Hanks as General Petraeus, I will scream. Paula Broadwell could be cast by Diane Lane, since she wishes she were her, and Jill Kelley can be played by Kim Kardashian. Well if the illicit sex fits…… Read More »

As our society evolves into a pack of wanna-bees, more and more websites are offering garment rentals that help you “feel like one of them”. “Them” as in people with money, “You” as in having limited means. “Them” as in people with unending wardrobes who buy retail and shop on Net-a-Porter or Moda Operandi, “You” wanting to dress in a new frock for every event or grocery store outing but are relegated to Rent The Runway, L’Armoire Du Styliste, Wear Today Gone Tomorrow, The Frock Shop, the list goes on. No longer is vintage shopping coupled with a visit to the… Read More »

Frankly, I am not a fan of these capsule collections at Target, Kohl’s, K-Mart and BlaBla’s. Who cares if some blubbery couch potato gets access to a Missoni sweater? Do we need to see more overweight people trying to look fierce? Oh, come now. Have you been to a Target lately? Just because their advertising and marketing is slick, that does not automatically translate to the clientele that moseys around the store. On the contrary. Yes, Target does do great events, like that amazing fashion show held at The Standard New York. And they get fabulous press, to the point where… Read More »

Q. Wanna know why I love Sperry Topsiders? A. Because there is something comforting about American classics. One of the few things that I am sure of is that I am not from the yacht set. Though I enjoy sitting by an occasional marina, cocktail in hand, my preference is solid ground. There is nothing more annoying than those events on boats that circle Manhattan, when after the first hour; I am ready to jump into the Hudson River, cooties and all. Give me trains, planes and automobiles any day. What does this have to do with Sperry? Everything-ish. I… Read More »

The secret is out: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen did the wedding dress for Kate Middleton…aka Princess Catherine aka Duchess of Cambridge. But the dress is remarkably simple considering it was from the designer who is single-handedly saving the McQueen legacy. She does look stunning. While Facbooking with Alexander Jenkins (Miss J) this morning, he noted (no, not noted as in noted fashion photographer) but noted that the dress is very Princess Grace and added, “Well done Sarah and the House of McQueen. Absolutely simple and gorgeous.” NOTE TO BRIDEZILLAS: See how demure and understated Kate is? Well, take note.… Read More »

As an aging beauty, well, aging anyway, I am forever on the prowl for amazing moisturizers. My mother taught me at an early age to slather on the moisturizer. She was a Ponds Cold Cream and Helena Rubinstein addict. I guess my tendency for addictions comes from her. I have spent the last 30 years going from one moisturizer to another, since Helena Rubinstein went out of business, and left to my own devices. Until last year, I had been using Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Skin Firming Cream, until that was taken off the market. I snapped up every… Read More »
