More Bla Bla on "the new york times style"

What do these three have in common you ask? Well, not much, besides the fact that they are in this weekend’s news. And when I say in the news, I say that with maximum sarcasm. Jennifer Aniston was honored by some Women in Film Crystal Award or some such nonsense, because her films are so deep and meaningful. At least the redeeming quality of Jennifer is that she can finally poke fun at herself about the joke that is her love life. In her acceptance speech earlier this week, she said, “I have a strange parallel with movies I was… Read More »

Everywhere I turn there’s something big and gay happening in the news. If it isn’t the front page of The New York Times Style section (Adam Lambert), or the New York Post (Martina Navratilova’s Galimony Suit), then it’s in the The Iowa Gazette (What did we just do?). Surely gays are top of mind this season. We are the new black of news stories. It must be an economy-related phenomenon. The last time we were so “on trend” was in the late 70’s when I first moved to New York City and became a club kid at Studio 54. Then… Read More »

Miley Cyrus has a tongue. She has many reasons for which she can stick it out at us for sure. With all the hub-bub about her risque performance at the 2013 VMAs, it’s just funny to see how desperate the media is to brand her as a silly child, even though she is a woman who knows exactly what she is doing. On November 24, 2010 I wrote a piece called Hannah Montana: Rest In Peace in response to a scathing article about Miley in the New York Times Style section, which at that time was the least interesting fashion journal… Read More »

“They’re baaack!” Remember Poltergeist II (see clip below) and to quote another line from the film here, “You are gonna die”, but only in the way that Rachel Zoe dies…as in I D-I-E. Manzies are back with a vengeance. Just look at what Marc Jacobs more to his Louis Vuitton after party in Paris. This updated Muu-Muu gown could very well be a Miu Miu gown, since he and Miuccia are palsies. But, hey, bless his heart for walking around as comfortably as he looks, complete with Priscilla Alden Pilgrim shoes, and not an ounce of flab. I’d kill to… Read More »

The other day I received a magazine in the mail called Treats. Not sure about the name, I was, however, intrigued by the cover photo of two nude beautiful women touching each others’ private parts. Not that it made me horny or anything, but loving the photography, I pawed through the magazine looking for more of the same… and found plenty. Plenty of skin, breasts, buttocks, men’s torsos and most notably a lot of fashion. The idea behind Treats by photographer Steve Shaw, is to create a sensual fashion / lifestyle publication that features great articles, interesting profiles and fashion… Read More »

Never one to bandy about certain terms loosely, I have been careful to minimize my use of one particular term… The A-List. One must go through hoops to become a member of the fabulii. It is not for the faint of heart. Clawing ones way up the ladder, be it in Hollywood or marrying into Royalty, the fact remains, there are very few ways to achieve such status. There are those certain editrixes such as Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington and Arianna Huffington that are there for life. And boy did Arianna fight her way up that ladder. You gotta hand… Read More »

My freind who used to be the creative director at Lord & Taylor told me a remarkable story. Their ads used to be exclusively fashion illustrations—it was their look. One time, The New York Times ran a full page ad, featuring a particular designer, except somehow the Lord & Taylor logo was left off the ad. That did not impact the sales of that item, at all.… Read More »

When that short lived reality show High Society was on television, there was a firestorm of bad press flying around in regards to that cast. Whether it was Tinsley Mortimer or her ex-husband, Paul Johnson Calderon, Jules Kirby or Devorah Rose, they were all lambasted in the media, much for good reason. When it came to Devorah Rose, she could not cut a break, which made her the more sympathetic of the group. Page Six started the Team Devorah vs. Team Tinsley and the color war began. Some people are crowned notorious by the press and never live it down.… Read More »
