More Bla Bla on "missoni"

Frankly, I am not a fan of these capsule collections at Target, Kohl’s, K-Mart and BlaBla’s. Who cares if some blubbery couch potato gets access to a Missoni sweater? Do we need to see more overweight people trying to look fierce? Oh, come now. Have you been to a Target lately? Just because their advertising and marketing is slick, that does not automatically translate to the clientele that moseys around the store. On the contrary. Yes, Target does do great events, like that amazing fashion show held at The Standard New York. And they get fabulous press, to the point where… Read More »

I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic, remembering when Sportwear International labeled me “The Truth-Teller” and included the Manzie Report in the Who’s Who Fashion Yearbook. … Read More »

Missoni has taken over the airwaves. The overwhelming marketing of the Missoni-Target collection has made me dizzy, perhaps optical illusions and fashion should not go hand in hand. This weekend at a friends house, I used the Missoni (collection) bath towels, which did not dry my hands. The paper thin towels moved the water droplets around but did not fully absorb. Granted, the stripes and colors were fun to look at, but if a towel does not act like a towel then I take issue. The Spring ’12 collection went down the Milan runway and from the looks of things,… Read More »

The war in the Middle East will have nothing on the war that is kicking off at retail between wanna-be-perceived-as fashion retailers Sears versus K-Mart. Think what you want about television stars being the next big fashion statement, but between the similarities between the Kardashian Kollection at Sears and the Sofia Vergara collection at K-Mart, you can just give me a friggen break. Fast fashion is perhaps the saddest thing that happened to the industry. Sure, affordable style is a good thing. But it has run a muck. So, what, now, you can have a supporting role on an overrated… Read More »

Here’s a line that I can’t figure out: Oh, the mother and child reunion, is only a motion away. I get the other verse, when Paul Simon sings, Oh, the mother and child reunion is only a moment away. But, whatever, speaking of moments, Barneys New York is having their moment as we speak while they begin to roll out the “new, improved” Barneys New York since Mark Lee grabbed the reigns. First up, the new Fall ad campaign styled by and starring Carine Roitfeld. Most of what I see I like very much. Not swacked with the above image… Read More »

Two years ago I coined the phrase Manzie in response to the men’s runway shows in Paris, Milan and New York. That phrase caught on like wildfire within the industry and in a short time after that, the looks being thrown down the runway became increasingly butch. Designers like Billy Reid set a new tone and standard for what men should look like and all was well in Glocca Morra. That was then and this is now. There is something in the air and it is living up to Lord Alfred Tennyson‘s poem, Locksley Hall when it says, “In the… Read More »

The news that Patrick Robinson was fired last week from the Gap was not that shocking. The Gap has had a few cute moments since Patrick arrived on the scene, but consistency was lacking. You don’t need me to ramble on and on about what did not work during his reign, but I am happy to suggest a few key bits that should be taken under serious consideration if they really want to revitalize the brand. First things first let us identify the key times that we “fall into the Gap” with full intention, because Lord knows, when you are… Read More »

It is with great sadness that I share with you my “Not Best Dressed List” for the 2011 Costume Institute Gala. Look, it does not make me happy to say things like, “That dress makes you look fat.” or “Don’t you own a mirror?” or “Don’t you have a gay?” or worse. Here are my winners or in this case losers of the evening. The rating system is as follows: F for Fat M for Mirror NG for No Gay W for No Words Please follow us on Twitter.com/imeanwhat or Like Us on Facebook.… Read More »
