New Year’s Obsession

Dec 23, 2010Breaking Newzzz

I mean...I loved Gwyneth on Glee but I don't need to scrunch next to her in Vegas.

How obsessed are we about New Year’s Eve? Are you one of those people that have be out and about or those devout stayer-inners who always apologetically, or over-compensated-ly wear their plans like a badge of honor. “I don’t need to be out amongst humans, I am confident in my own skin.” Well, that, or you have no plans. I was reading about the Las Vegas opening of the Cosmopolitan Hotel and their 25 million dollar New Year’s Bash starring Jay Z, Beyonce, Coldplay and Gwyneth Paltrow. Granted it sounds like a grand old time but relax Marlene. Sounds like much ado about whatever. Like I want to be in a crush of 4,000 people? Yikes. Then there are the Times Square people, who I will never understand nor try to as it seems like a massive waste of time. Standing in the cold all day without a cocktail in hand? Really?

I used to torture myself to find the deeper meaning in New Year’s Eve and claimed that whatever I did that evening would symbolize my coming year. Do you know how many years I was bombed at the stroke of midnight? And yes, that did foreshadow those years that I spent living with full-blown addictions. Now, I take pride in my laissez faire attitude of doing sometimes nothing and sometimes something. I have no hard and fast rules about New Year’s Eve and like it that way. Actually, I try not to have too many rules about anything in my life anymore. I use this time of year to evaluate my circumstances and determine if I have been naughty or nice. Most often it is naughty…but that is directed at certain Republicans and celebrity fashion designers. It’s the holidays, I have nothing to say other than thank you for being a part of the I Mean…What?!? community and may your days be merry and bright.
