People We Lerve
OK, so Burlesque is not the best movie ever. And yes, perhaps Christina Aguilera is not our finest actress. Agreed, this camp classic rivals Glitter, the vehicle that made Mariah Carey a laughing stock. But the fact remains, this little musical is as entertaining as any ditsy musical from the MGM musical era, where the storyline is simple, the acting is cartoonish and the music is the only saving grace. But the outright disrespect from the audience at the screening of Burlesque confounds me. The movie opens with Christina alone in a restaurant somewhere in Podunk, with her belting out… Read More »

IMW Year In Review
Everyone is doing their Year in Review…why can’t I? Every news station, cable or otherwise, newspaper, magazine, website, you name it…it’s recap central. We are being accosted by The Year’s Best, The Year’s Worst, The Top Ten Movies, The Top Ten CNN Heroes, The Top Thirteen Tiger Woods Hookers, you name it, there’s a list going on. Well, I am not special, I want to do one also. So, join me as we sing Auld Lang Syne here at I Mean…What?!? and close out our (barely) first year since birthin’ the baby (not be confused with the Birther Movement). Herewith… Read More »
On Cate Blanchett
Not many New Yorkers, or humans, for that matter, will have had the pleasure, or rather, the great fortune of seeing Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Names Desire. The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) was lucky enough to feature the production, directed by Liv Ullman at the BAM Harvey Theater, the coolest venue. I have long been obsessed with great actresses. It started as a child when I happened to notice Bette Davis’ eyes peering from the television screen in Dark Victory. With the blink of those eyes, my life changed. Bette Davis was my first obsession, followed by food,… Read More »
10 Things To Be Grateful For
Sure, the lackluster economy does not top the list. Nor does the endless coverage of Tiger Woods and his barrage of hookery-tramps. Today it is all about taking a deep breath and thinking back to what you have to be grateful for. Though this year was turbulent, your job is to identify where there was joy. Gratitude lists are very personal, and since I feel so close to many of you (except those kooks who were obsessed with Lindsay Lohan), herewith is my list. I urge you to make your own, because as the year comes to an end, it… Read More »
Last night I was invited to speak on a panel with the fashion industry’s coolest and/or smartest people including Mary Alice Stephenson, Patrick McMullan, Dani Stahl, Stuart Elliott, Annabel Tollman, Brian Reyes, Alex Gonzalez and Moi. I was representing the New & Social Media portion of the swimsuit competition. It was a lively discussion on “Redesigning the Rules of Fashion in Today’s New Media”. I was honored to be invited by Michael Flutie, Madwood Media, who hosted this event for the The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund. The meeting of the minds (OK, a little too much ego here) was held… Read More »
Yesterday, I Mean…What?!? shared the cover art for the upcoming issue of MUSE, the Fashionart Magazine from Milan shot by Yu Tsai, featuring Lindsay Lohan. You’d think by the the comments all over the internet that we did something malicious. You know, like the Bitches of Eastwick coming out of the woodwork, claiming that we had sex with Tiger Woods, (I’m breching at the thought, but would happily take the million bucks). Or sneaking into the White House illegally like Michaele and Tareq Salahi the desperadoes du jour. Or perhaps like Courtney (more facial fillers now) Love, accusing Britney Spears‘… Read More »
Lindsay Lohan Exposed
This is one of those weeks where things land on my lap with no rhyme or reason, and it is all beyond hilarious. My friend, Yu Tsai, an amazing photographer & film maker shot an 18-page spread for Muse, a Milan based Fashionart magazine. The beautifully shot and lit spread features Lindsay Lohan, Petey Wright and Sofia Boutella in one sexy photo shoot inspired by Kate Moss and Johnny Depp circa early 1990’s. It’s a amazing art piece. Over the next few days, you will see more images revealed to the press, and then finally a beautiful two-minute video from… Read More »
The “Not Best Dressed List” at the Amerian Music Awards
Who doesn’t love a good Best Dressed List and to that point, who doesn’t love a Worst Dressed List even more. I see all your hands raised by this point. The thing about Best and Worst Dressed Lists are that they are so subjective. You have to take the comments from the source. For instance, I have my favorites from the American Music Awards. I made my selections early yesterday because I was traveling back from Iceland while the show was on. My Best Dressed List concurs with style.com‘s Look of the Day, whereas my choices and Huffington Post‘s collide.… Read More »
Greetings From Reykjavik
I’m in Reykjavik, Iceland and now that the sun finally came up (11am-ish) I can get out of bed and into the streets. Not coming up with any pearls of wisdom, or anything to laugh about. Am here supporting my friend Steinunn who is having a retrospective exhibition at the Reykjavik Art Museum. She was also just honored with the title Artist Laureate, first time ever to a fashion designer. How this collection does not transcend the borders of the US is astonishing. Everything she does is seasons a head of the curve. Case in point, ruffles. The big story… Read More »
