This political season, the media is making mountains out of molehills. Case in point, the supposed momentum of Rick “I HATE SEX” Santorum. Prom: Short for promenade, which refers to when guests march around at the beginning of a ball or cotillion. Proms took their cue from the exclusive debutante balls; so what we now refer to and obsess on as Prom is in essence a down-market version of the Crillon Ball of Paris. Last night’s Costume Institute Gala was the New York City version of the Oscar Red Carpet. As Joan Rivers will surely attest this Friday night on Fashion Police, there were hits and plenty of misses.
