Forget about the bold prints and new looser silhouettes. The biggest surprise statement out of New York Fashion Week for Spring ’12 is that you do not have to do anything to your hair any more. Nope. The new beauty regime is shower, towel dry, jump into your frock, plop on a bit of under eye cream and off you go. Wet hair is all over the runways. Not sure if the story they are trying to sell us on is “effortless beauty” but whenever I see girls in the morning running to work with their hair wet, I think,… Read More »
New York Fashion Week: My Edits
Designers are known to have big egos. Not only do I know this first hand, but they will be the first ones to admit it themselves. Hello Michael Kors. The fact remains, it takes a big ego to decide that this dress is the new must-have or that skirt length is the only length this season, you get the drift. It also takes a big ego tho throw some things down a runway that there is no chance in hell that a retailer would buy it, let alone that a socialista would wear it… besides the hired model. The fashion industry is like network television. You can keep changing the channels, only to find utter nonsense filling the airwaves. In that same vain, you can go from fashion show to fashion show only to find utter nonsense filling the runways. The job of an editor these days, besides batting off the fashion bloggers for your prime seat, is to live through endless presentations that are simply a waste of time fotz. Anyone who wants to jump on board for the schmatta business these days, like Madonna and every other celebrity it seems, has to be completely nuts. When… Read More »

While we were toiling around New York City, dashing uptown to Lincoln Center, then down to MAC & MILK, and of course to must-see shows like Alexander Wang at Pier 94 and Rodarte on West 22nd Street, something far more important in terms of fashion was happening in the world that completely went off of Anna Wintour‘s radar. Yes, of course, she is so busy between running a magazine, seeing all the shows of in-book advertisers, plus those that will one day, producing a TV show for CBS-TV on Fashion’s Night Out and producing Fashion’s Night Out, it is understandable… Read More »
Mini Manzie Report-The Nonsense Continues
Yesterday was uneventful as far as Manzies go. The women’s collections are in full bloom. Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Charlotte Ronson, William Rast, Rag and Bone, these are the collections with all the heat. That said, there was little if anything interesting going on in menswear. And when I say uninteresting, I don’t lie. I am still trying to figure out why Lacoste does a fashion show. I’d imagine their retailers would buy that in the showroom, and clearly, if they were in the 21st century, with a basic collection like that, they could handle their seasonal order and reorder… Read More »
