Happy New Year, Brought To You By…

Jan 1, 2010Breaking Newzzz

Spartacus hunk, Andy Whitfield out-shined the crystal ball dropping on Times Square, leaving revelers drooling.

Plans, schmans. I tend to not go out on New Year’s Eve after so many years of going out. Plenty of fun was had over the years, but as rigor-mortis sets in, I have embraced the solitude, perhaps a friend or two and a sister or two to share the tidings has been the deal as of late. This year, I was invited to a small gathering, which was actually a great option. Car service to and fro, being with my good friend in town from Los Angeles, we rarely are in the same timezone on New Year’s. All the plans were set in motion. Then life happened. My chocolate Chihuahua, Woodstock, had a freak accident and slipped a disc. I simply could not opt for a celebrity infused cocktail party when my one and only is home whimpering, having been shot up with drugs. Actually, I was hoping for a contact high…to no avail.

Instead I rang in the New Year watching MTV’s Jersey Shore, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper-Kathy Griffin Bitch-fest, featuring the third gay man, Lance Bass. The main star of the evening was neither of the above nor the Toshiba Ball dropping on Times Square. Rather, the main attraction for 2010 was Andy Whitfield on the the strategically placed ad for the upcoming series Spartacus on Starz? Who on God’s green Earth subscribes to Starz? I could not get on the other side of the whole Starz thing, wondering how that meeting went in the marketing department, “Let’s spend our entire budget on a New Year’s co-promotion.” Between the Toshiba logo, the Starz hunk, and those retarded, over-sized, blue Nivea Cat-in-the-Hat hats the people donned in droves, I felt overly marketed to. I decided right then and there what my New Year’s resolutions are:

  1. I will never buy a Toshiba anything. I haven’t yet, why start now?
  2. As a committed moisturizer-aholic Nivea has somehow not been my go to brand, rather I am obsessed with Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract (hard to find) and Kiehl’s for back up.
  3. I have no intention of subscribing to Starz, even with their current $25 rebate. Though I am glad to know that Lucy Lawless has another acting gig, but if the upshot of Starz is Race To Witch Mountain with The Rock, well, then, give me Jersey Shore any day.

Happy New Year indeed.

since moving to Los Angeles 5 years ago, Disneyland has been the go-to place for New Year's Eve. although by 11pm, I begin to lose faith in all humanity with all the pushing and shoving and noisemakers in my ear.

Poor Woodstock! how does a dog slip a disc? If I had to make the same choice, I would have done exactly what you did, even if the party was thrown by my idol, Cher. wait. maybe not Cher. in that case, my furbaby would get a sitter….. ;)

    Happy New Year!

Only watching this show for Lucy Lawless. Too poor to subscribe to Starz though. Hopefully it makes it to Hulu.
