Studio was a rare moment in time. Words don't do it justice.

It was “the only” time, and for sure, the best years of my life. Though it’s still not clear when or how, but at some point, I began running with the Beautiful People (BPs). … Read More »

Take life for a ride.

What do you get when you combine a few remnants from Studio 54 plus New York’s premiere Studio Cycling experience coupled with a lot of good intentions? A great charity ride at Soul Cycle 77. I am riding to help raise funds for THE FELIX ORGANIZATION/ Adoptees For Children that provides inspiring opportunities and new experiences to enrich the lives of children who are growing up in the foster care system.… Read More »

Memories, light the corners of my mind.

There are very few times that one gets to relive their past, that is unless you are Shirley Maclaine. Last night, Studio 54 had a one night only reunion of sorts. Actually, it was a promotion for the new Sirius Radio Station with the same name but let’s not split hairs here. Let’s just say that last night was a reboot of my youth when I was one of the original club kids at Studio 54. Having been a guest on the Studio 54 radio show with hosts Marc Beneke and Myra Scheer, I was looking so forward to the… Read More »

The Marc & Myra Show had Carolina Herrera as a guest.

Ruth La Ferla of The New York Times Style talks about how prevalent the 1970’s are this fall season. “The ’70s have been revisited time and again in more recent decades, but not with the conviction demonstrated on the runways of late.” Besides in fashion, there are other nods to the period that depict one of the most creative eras in New York’s history. Ruth also mentions The Marc & Myra Show on Sirius Radio, a radio show that features Studio 54 survivors, Marc Benecke (doorman) and Myra Scheer (keeper of the VIP List), who worked at the infamous club.… Read More »

Cast of A-List. Exactly, it is a a list. A generic list.

Never one to bandy about certain terms loosely, I have been careful to minimize my use of one particular term… The A-List. One must go through hoops to become a member of the fabulii. It is not for the faint of heart. Clawing ones way up the ladder, be it in Hollywood or marrying into Royalty, the fact remains, there are very few ways to achieve such status. There are those certain editrixes such as Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington and Arianna Huffington that are there for life. And boy did Arianna fight her way up that ladder. You gotta hand… Read More »

Bright Stephen Burrows and warm woolen mittens… Though white paper packages tied up with strings are not on my list, these are a few of my favorite people. Unless you are dead, you know that Target is opening its first store in New York City…East Harlem to be exact. Although it is still a bit of a schlepp for me, seeing that I am a devout downtown-ite, the great news is that the Target folks had the where-with-all to engage designers that would resonate in their new neighborhood. Most notably, Stephen Burrows and the illustrious Isabel and Ruben Toledo. When… Read More »

Yet another Gay Pride Weekend filled with cha cha and booze is upon us. Since washboard abs and cheesy music has hijacked the look and tone of what is “gay”, let alone the Manzie fashion filled funways, you can see why I have proclaimed that I am homosexual yes, gay no in the piece I AM ASKING AND I AM TELLING.  However, this season there is provocative and compelling element that will be front and center in the Gay Pride Parade. I am speaking of my friend Lauren Foster, the Miami-based glamour puss, who has chosen to take this moment… Read More »

The article of the week is by Eric Wilson of The New York Times Style section about the Berlin based fashion label, VONROSEN. Thank you Eric for introducing me to probably the most annoying new “luxury brand” on the planet. Get this…you have to apply to get access to their website, which is the only place to peruse their schmattas…I mean collection. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love good snob appeal, a.k.a. the entire luxury goods business. But when some uppity fashionista thinks that the Studio 54 philosophy of marketing applies to buying a nothing special cardigan sweater for… Read More »

Halloween is fun, if you are a glutton for punishment. Dressing up like some schnook, or a scary person, or a sexy beast, or a president, ex-president, or Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson. I get it. Boozed up, wired up, dressed up and most times no where to go. Fierce, you make your entrance as a great party or two. Then you try hailing yet another cab, your big hair gets crunched, make up needs major retouching. It goes on for hours. And as the evening progresses, you get drunker, and less put together, till you look like a wreck.… Read More »
