The Mean Season is a pattern of weather that occurs in Florida during the late summer months. It was also the title of a film in the 1980’s. More recently, it was what I named this Presidential election cycle on October 29. When Florida was hanging in the balance, as usual, it got me thinking of the movie. And with Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, also hanging like a chad rather looming like a nebulous cloud over everyone’s head, both campaigns became ruthless. The height of arrogance came from the Romney campaign by virtue (?) of their unending lies that made this season the meanest on record and coming just short of the tag line from the film, “Is The Murder Season”. Be honest, we all were a bunch of Mean Girls.
The Mean Season Starring Mean Girls brought out the worst in many of us:
- Our true colors
- Our unwillingness to compromise
- Our best interests being forsaken for the blessed buck
- Our anger issues
- Our ill will
- Our secret resentments
- Our tendencies to hate those who disagree with us
- Our rather not mentions
