I Mean…Gay Marriage?!?
It’s time for me to chime in on this gay marriage issue. Clearly I am not an opponent nor am I a proponent either. I’m from the school of “live and let live”, so if two gay people want to get married…by all means, make it legal in every state, you have my blessing. I think you’re nuts…but go right ahead. The notion of marriage has always seems a bit archaic to me, straight, gay or otherwise. Monogamy is a challenging notion that defies gravity: that which is forbidden becomes obsession. Yes, there are those lovely exceptions; couples that are… Read More »
Are You Religulous? I Sure Am.
This is the Holy Trinity of holiday times with Passover and Easter melding together like one long reason not to work too hard. I have been wondering when the Easter equivalent of Kwanzaa was going to appear, seeing that “holiday” popped up out of nowhere several years ago. And now with Barak Obama as president, well this new (old) holiday is bound to appear. Maybe then we can declare some kind of official bank holiday in honor of the three ancient religions. And if ever there was a time to give bankers a break…this would be it.… Read More »
Leave Michelle Alone!
Uch, such pressure. I was reading an artcle in Women’s Wear Daily about the top U.S. designers response to being snubbed by Michelle Obama. Now, granted, I think her Jason Wu and Thakoon obsession is not that warranted, but it’s really cool of her on some level. What level, I’m not sure, but a level. And I see the point that Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera make. Oscar was even bold enough to say, “You don’t go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater.” Oh, no, you didn’t. Good for him, though. What does he… Read More »
OK, OK. Sure Michelle Obama is fierce. And very stylish. And totally cool. And really smart. And her politics are wonderful. And her positive impact is being felt worldwide. And her husband is Barak Obama. OK, OK. But I have to draw the line in the sand to this ridiculous comparison between her and Carla Bruni. First of all, why must we simpletons resort to comparing at all. Why can’t people just stand on their own merit. Why can Michelle just be fabulous, compared to nobody. And what is to be gained by declaring that Michelle “out-glamed” Carla? I’ll tell… Read More »
The Goosing of The Queen
The reason I started I Mean…What?!? was to draw attention the nonsense that fills the airwaves. The modern day media frenzy has become the master ill of our time; destroying the lives of Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. Granted, they are annoying, but two wrongs don’t make a right. With the media outlets fearing loss of market share and ad revenue, they jump into sensationalist mode where no one is safe, and no story too boring to blabber on ad nauseum. I speak today of the little goose that Michelle Obama did to the Queen of England’s rear. I would… Read More »
Vanity Fairy
Just read the unfair article in Vanity Fair by the seeming fey Michael Lewis and wonder, “What the fuck was up her skirt?” I was just in Reykjavik this weekend and had a lovely time. The Iceland Design Center hosted a 3-day series of events call DesignMarch. It’s all about design…in March…get it? You march around town…and…see design. Anyhoo, there was a group of fantastic international design writers, editors and me invited by the government to explore their burgeoning creative industries ready to be discovered or rather, ready for their close-ups, me being Mr. DeMille. While is Iceland, I was… Read More »
There’s something that I find increasingly odd about David Axelord, chief strategist of Barak Obama’s presidential campaign and top strategist in the White House. Maybe odd is not the right word. How about he makes me increasingly uncomfortable. I was watching Obama’s 900th press appearance last night on every channel (come on, American Idol is pre-empted for a re-run?) and I noticed David Axelrod in the background, fully smug, chewing gum, but not like the kind of chewing that one would expect from a publicist on a red carpet. You always see publicists chewing gum on a red carpet, but… Read More »
Outrage Shmoutrage
Enough already with this nationwide outcry about AIG, or the way Geitner is handling the economy, the bank bailout, or what the fuck A-Rod is up to (hookers, Madonna, steroids). You’ve all let out some steam, now stop. First of all, if you go back several days on my blog, I was already expressing my anger and even warned AIG staffers to run for the hills for dear life. But after a weekend of mob anger, shriying (screaming in Yiddish) from the mountaintops and plenty of bogus airtime filled with bloviators and Republicans, I say enough is enough. Oh, and… Read More »
Here are the leading perpetrators of hawking way too much Republican manifesto blabber, and they need to stop. Better, they need to shut the fuck up while we try to calmly navigate through the uncharted waters of getting this country through an unprecedented financial crisis, the largest in our lifetime. I am not eloquent enough to go on and argue the Democratic side now populating the bloviator news channels, but what I do know (as a layman) is that whatever these clowns were saying over the past eight years DID NOT WORK and a big reason why were are where… Read More »
Bankers and Brokers and Yuppies…OH MY!!!
Be Afraid. Be very afraid. Because these people here (I use the term loosely), these “bankers” are at the core of our country’s financial problems. But it’s not just them. They share the blame with these other friggen clowns, the Wall Street “stock brokers”. Just look at these buffoons. This is no way for a self-respecting adult to spend their day. Screaming and carrying on with no sense of decorum or sophistication. And screaming and yelling about money? I mean…what?!? Is this how horribly they were raised, that they need to spend their waking, working hours screaming into the air,… Read More »
