Say what you want. Madonna is amazing.

What on Earth is everybody buggin’ out about Madonna’s performance? My phone started buzzing immediately with all these haters ripping Madge a new orifice and I don’t know what these people are thinking. My sister said, “She’s 53, put on a pair of flats and dance. What was that?” First of all that was Madonna giving high-fashion glamazon and doing what she does best… holding court. Here are the facts: Madonna came out as Cleopatra being pulled by a bunch of gayish, football playery looking gladiators. Amazing. Madonna wore Givenchy Couture. Beyond. Madge opened with Vogue. Obsessed knowing that thousands of straight… Read More »

Vivienne Westwood gave us the poor thing. The New Colossus Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!  – Emma Lazarus 1883 Who would have thunk that these beautiful, prolific words would one day come to represent the menswear fashion shows in Europe circa Fall ’12? Jean Paul Galtier gave us the tired. Adam Kimmel gave us a hudled mass person. Umit Benan gave us the homeless quotient. And Nicola Formichetti for Mugler gave us… Dracula?… Read More »

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bid a fond farewell to The Manzie*. (*See below meaning of Manzie for those of you new comers.) What was once a vibrant, hysterical fashion statement that captivated the runways of Milan and Paris—heck and New York for that matter—looks that left us speechless, or gagging anyway, have now gone to that great fashion graveyard beyond… Ebay. Who won’t miss those retarded styles by Thom Browne, or some of those collections from Rick Owens and Walter Van Beirendonck’s Big Bird ensembles from Spring ’10? And surely we can never forget that madcap John… Read More »

Nothing makes me happier than knowing that the fashion industry is gearing up to help Barack Obama get re-elected. This is good news. Let’s face it, the land of the fabulii fell short during the mid-term elections and were nowhere to be found. Too busy creating signature fragrances, I gather. Be that as it may, all is forgiven…ish. Onward to getting under way at the task at hand. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Anna Wintour / Vogue is starting runwaytowin.com to get designers engaged, creating T-shirts, hosting benefits etc. Let’s just hope this initiative has an engaging grass roots effort… Read More »

Where is Elsa Klensch?

Style Mavens have become in this decade what fitness trainers became in the 1990’s… a bunch of waiters who wanted another life. Obscure teens with blogs are the new Elsa Klensch and the old Elsa Klensch has gone by way of newspapers. Call me what you want, but I am sad to know that Elsa is less relevant than some Polynesian drag king with an iPad 2.… Read More »

Rent Boys... move over.

As our society evolves into a pack of wanna-bees, more and more websites are offering garment rentals that help you “feel like one of them”. “Them” as in people with money, “You” as in having limited means. “Them” as in people with unending wardrobes who buy retail and shop on Net-a-Porter or Moda Operandi, “You” wanting to dress in a new frock for every event or grocery store outing but are relegated to Rent The Runway, L’Armoire Du Styliste, Wear Today Gone Tomorrow, The Frock Shop, the list goes on. No longer is vintage shopping coupled with a visit to the… Read More »

Coco Rocha and the Models That Matter.

For the most part, models have a reputation of being vapid, only into themselves and how they look. Even if it means eating tissues and Ex-Lax and drinking warm champagne. But that really is not the case. There are a group of what I call “Models That Matter“, those who actually use their position to do good deeds. Granted they are few and far between, but they do exist. Case in point, Coco Rocha. She designs a jewelry line for Senhoa where all the proceeds benefit the underprivileged. Coco’s latest effort is promoting the documentary film, Letters To Haiti that… Read More »

Nothing comes between me and my Snookis.

I have worked with cool denim brands over the years. Was intimately involved in the launch of the “Baggie Jean” for Sasson, not to mention the iconic “Ooh La La Sasson” campaign in the 70’s. For the past five years have raised the profile of Amsterdam-based G-STAR here in the United States through strategic partnerships and events. This background gives me the right to be in shock and awe after reading that Schnooki, I mean… Snooki is licensing jeans, among 50 or so other categories. Snooki Jeans? Really? First of all Google Snooki – Images and see for yourself, SHE… Read More »
