More Bla Bla on "not best dressed"

Attack of the killer print.

#NotBestDressed is chock full of killer prints. And when the words killer and print live in the same sentence, imagine the dizzying array of dresses that were on the CFDA Awards red carpet. Surely everyone got the memo and is now blind.… Read More »

Yikes.

Awards Season is almost over. All we have to do is get through today’s Monday morning quarterbacks (present company included) spewing “Who looked like a mess” or “What was she thinking” or “WTF was she wearing” and then we can rest our weary bones. Yes, we can retire from The Joan Rangers Fashion Police Force and become civilians again rather than critics. My recurring theme of the evening was, The Dress That Ate The Actress. This means that there were not enough fittings, or the stylist in the room was from the Helen Keller School of Styling. Something was a… Read More »

Q: What is hair? A: Hair is probably the most complicated issue of our time. Perhaps second to universal health care…but an issue of the highest, most unprecedented order. Oh, yeah, and then there’s world peace. On second thought, hair is the number one issue for mankind and those other colossal issues follow suit. How can I say that? Well, admit it. You spend more time thinking about your hair than Obama’s heath care plan OR the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. Therefore…hair wins…horrendous as that sounds. As a follow up to IMW’s popular The Not Best Dressed List,… Read More »

Last year at the MTV MOVIE AWARDS, I was astonished at the sheer stupidity of the overall content. Last night, I was less astonished at the stupidity and more amazed at what little fashion walked the red carpet. And when I say little, I mean very little dresses coupled with very little taste. Yesterday afternoon, my freind Audrey Nizen (Creative Director, Bloomingdale’s) and I were lamenting on how stylists have ruined the creativity at awards shows by playing it all too safe. Last night however, there was safety in numbers, and all of which hit the recurring theme of Hootchie… Read More »

I Mean..What?!? loves a good best dressed list…but there’s nothing like the exact opposite to warm the cockles of  our heart. That and Suzy Menkes. Of all the film festivals…and there are millions these days because all you need is a Chamber of Commerce and ta-da…but I digress…the Cannes Film Festival is the one where fashion really matters most. Sure the films are important too, but there’s no red carpet other than the Oscars that commands such drama. Sorry Emmys and Golden Globes…get over yourselves. Anyhoo, I could not help noticing a few fashion faux pas from the AmFAR Benefit…probably… Read More »

Looking through the Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List was a bit of a head scratch-er for me. First of all, can we eliminate men from this challenge? When I think of Best Dressed lists, Mr. Blackwell’s Best Worst Dressed comes to mind as does Eleanor Lambert, who originated the Best Dressed List in 1940. Rarely do I think of men when we speak of Best Dressed lists. This year’s list in Vanity Fair had too many men, the images are lame and frankly, I don’t look to Vanity Fair for their opinions on fashion. I loves me my Vanity… Read More »

All I want to know is whether Tom Ford's intern has the dress dry-cleaned, or wet cleaned, since Anne Hathaway attended the premiere.

Where is Elsa Klensch?

Style Mavens have become in this decade what fitness trainers became in the 1990’s… a bunch of waiters who wanted another life. Obscure teens with blogs are the new Elsa Klensch and the old Elsa Klensch has gone by way of newspapers. Call me what you want, but I am sad to know that Elsa is less relevant than some Polynesian drag king with an iPad 2.… Read More »

Barbara Walters' list makes the D-List aspirational.

You cannot believe who is on Baba Wawa’s list for 2011. Fascinating? I call them Fotz-inating. (Etymology of the word Fotz: It started out as a sarcastic reference to something that is or someone that “thinks” they are fascinating. So, it went from, “Oh, you’re fascinating” to “You are fotzinating” to “fotzy balloons” to “fotzy” to the currently, most used…”fotz”.)… Read More »
